Matt Hampton fell in love with writing and storytelling at the age of 3, in a dark movie theatre watching Return of the Jedi. That singular moment led him on a journey to become a master of his craft. He studied Creative Writing at the University of Missouri – Columbia, with emphasis in Playwrighting and Poetry, and has had several plays produced across the country, as well as poems published and performed in multiple venues.
Matt ran out of money for school in the middle of his senior year and so, in order to both earn the money for his education and gain more perspective as a writer, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. There he served as a C-17 Crew Chief and an Instructor over the course of his 13 year career in Active Duty. While on duty, Matt completed a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management as well as an MBA, and MS in Leadership Development from The Citadel.
After leaving the service, Matt worked in technology and financial services, but never really felt happy. In July of 2018 he decided to change all of that and embarked on a journey to reclaim his dream. Matt left his financial services job and started the incredibly successful blog !00 Connections – Charleston, where he met with and wrote the stories of 100 random people in 100 days, even during Hurricane Florence. The blog propelled Matt back into his lifelong dream as a writer, speaker and storyteller.
Matt is a consummate student of storytelling, having engaged in every type of creative and professional writing on the planet, and continues his studies and passion for sharing the art and science of storytelling. In addition to his pursuit of storytelling and writing, Matt enjoys time outdoors in beautiful Charleston, SC as well as Taiko drumming and time with his dog, Maggie, and girlfriend, Mary Ann.
